aprilejoy.co.cc

Finally! I'm finished setting up my new blog. =) I signed up with two service providers that I linked to in my previous post. I only started installing and tweaking my Wordpress today, since the DNS took some time to update.

This is my first time to manually install Wordpress. Since my webhosting service is free, automatic installation of scripts is unavailable. Though it took me a while (around 10 minutes) to install, I think I prefer manual installation. I learned a lot from it, and I also learned that I have more patience now compared to when I was in high school.

The current template that I'm using for aprilejoy is not my first choice, nor is it my second, nor third. I tried a few of my options and settled with the current one. It's a far cry from my first choice, which consisted of white swallows, clouds, and lots of baby blue.

I even changed my blog's favicon. *huge grin*

Go visit my new blog, and see how cute it is! Teehee!

Wow! Webhosts!

I had been satisfied with blogging services like Blogger and Wordpress, but after finding great templates for Wordpress blogs, I just couldn't be satisfied with Blogger anymore.

As of right this minute, I'm building one or two blogs to my liking. I'll put up the links here when I'm done (of course). First, I'll post links to great webmaster tools and services that I've come upon. If you know other sites or tools to add to these lists, then please feel free to post your comments.

Work update

I left my previous work last week. Just had enough. They kept assigning more articles when they know what happens to me when they do that. I begin to experience ulcer symptoms and I just get really stressed out. Stress and pressure make me a monster. I really tried to finish what they wanted me to finish, but I had to tell them that the articles were gonna be late. When I checked my e-mail again, they just assigned more articles with really confusing instructions. I asked them what the instructions meant, and they said they had no idea. They offered their guesses, but by then I'd just had it.

Of course, if I didn't have a better option I would have stuck to the job or died trying. I'm still a freelancer, but with better pay and I get to choose my topics, how many articles to write, and how much I'll earn. Also, there's better support for writers (I don't feel like I'm writing for a black hole).

I'm happier with this arrangement, and I'm more motivated to write. =)

home-based writing

My work frustrates me in so many levels I won't be surprised if I develop ulcer.

When I applied for my job last month, I was so elated when they actually replied four days later, instead of the promised "24-48" hours. I was asked to write 2 sample articles, which I delivered on time. Instead of receiving a reply within 24-48 hours, I had to text them and e-mail them about my application. They then sent me the contract, handbook, and the writer's checklist. When I submitted those, I waited for a week, but they still had no reply. I had to do the same thing I did previously--e-mail them and notify them about the e-mail through SMS. Two days later, they started sending me assignments. That was May 6.

According to them, they pay their writers weekly--every Monday, to be exact, though I heard from one of their writers that they usually pay on Tuesdays. It's already Friday, and I've been checking my account but I still haven't received anything yet.

Truthfully, I've been thinking of quitting. If only I didn't need a job... But this feels like I'm working for nothing. If they claimed to pay their writers bi-monthly or monthly, then I'd understand and accept that. However, they say that they pay weekly, yet I haven't been paid yet. I haven't even gotten any correspondence regarding their first payment--if they want to confirm my account number or whatever. There's still no message from them about it, and I can't help the alarm ringing in my ears. I don't want to be scammed again. It would be very bad if they were actually scamming, because I've invested a lot of time and effort working for them. I don't know if I should ask them about it, because it's really their responsibility. It gives me the impression that they're not serious about their home-based writers, and it's not encouraging. It's like they're not really a stable company, in contrast to what is reflected in their website. It just makes each day of working for them more difficult than the last.

my birthday week

It's been a while since updated. I'd been busy during my birthday and the week after that. And then I also got depressed. What a turnaround from my giddy birthday week. *sigh* I guess that's just life.

As promised, I'll give details of my birthday, but I'll do them in bullets. Here goes:

April 17

+ This is not my actual birthday, but I'd say it started on this day. When I woke up on this Thursday morning, I felt desolate. I always dreaded my birthday because it had always been the worst and saddest day of every year of my life ever since I turned 12. Nope, it's not just me who thinks this. If you have to buy your own birthday cake and cook your own spaghetti on your birthday, then it sucks, right?

+ I had nothing to do beyond house chores, so when I checked my e-mail, one of my BFFs, Frances, e-mailed me an advanced greeting and told me that she had a surprise waiting for me in my Paypal account. Whatever the amount had been, it was one of the sweetest things somebody's ever done for me. I was really happy.

+ I checked my work e-mail, not expecting a reply from my applications anymore, when there was a reply. Ha! After four days! I finally got a job!

+ I had Jollibee burgers delivered to celebrate my happiness. I'm not a burger fan. I'd rather have congee or noodles any day rather than burgers, but it was what the people at home wanted. *shrugs*

+ I fell asleep after the sun was up. I couldn't sleep from being happy.

April 18

+ I visited Tintin for lunch in her workplace. It was her last day of work and she was very happy about it.

+ We chatted about lots of things and she told me about her new crush. =D

+ We went to Dexter's siomai shop, but he wasn't there so we went to Kenny Roger's Roasters to eat.

+ I ate too much.

+ Their mais con hielo is way better than Jollibee's ice craze. It should be, right?

+ I went home and promptly fell asleep.

+ Slept for 2-3 hours and remarkably, I felt good. Not sleepy at all.

+ I met Diane at Gateway around past 8 pm.

+ We tried the shabu-shabu at Gloria Maris. We had the platter that's good for two people, but in reality four people can share it. It's one of the cheapest shabu-shabu I'd tried. I loved the soup and everything, especially the century egg. Yum!

+ Diane invited her cousin to finish the food. Hehe. We were so stuffed and we couldn't finish all of it.

+ We walked around Araneta Center and Gateway to pass the time.

+ We went to The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and chatted, while I waited for Urim.

+ Urim arrived around 11, and Diane and her cousin went home.

+ I was really stuffed, but Urim hadn't eaten yet and he was very hungry. (He went to work at 1 pm so that he could leave at around 9 or 10 pm, when his office hours were 8 pm to 4:30 am.)

+ We looked for a restaurant he liked, but we ended up going to Timog/Tomas Morato.

+ He finally settled on Rai Rai Ken.

+ We shared a bowl of ramen and some sushi. It was good but I was really full.

April 19

+ We went to the mall to buy my birthday food and cake.
+ The fact that somebody else was buying my cake made me very happy.

+ We bought a white 1GB Zen Stone Plus with a free blue cover. YAY! Finally, I could listen to Freddie Mercury's voice all the time!

+ We came home and ate. The cake tasted really good.

+ I had to cancel dinner with Tintin and Diane. First, Tintin canceled because she wasn't feeling well. Urim and I, on the other hand, weren't feeling super, either. We drank something in the mall while we were shopping and it had really weird effects on us. After I finished my glass of gulaman, I felt my back and shoulder muscles hurt. They hurt so much it was a struggle for me to keep standing. While we were buying the cake I was curled up around my stomach in front of the glass storage where all the cakes were on display. I just pretended to be looking at the cakes at the bottom but I felt really bad. Urim, on the other hand, felt nauseous and almost vomited after drinking the gulaman. The effects were instantaneous, too. It didn't take an hour.

+ I tried charging my new Zen Stone Plus, but to no avail.

+ We felt better around 9 pm. He treated me out to dinner at TGI Fridays in Trinoma.

+ We ordered pasta and filet mignon because he wanted steak. It wasn't cooked very well on the inside.

+ Afterwards we went to Chowking to buy takeout for my mom and brother.

+ We played Ikariam and still tried to charge my Zen Stone Plus.

+ I had a stomach ache and Urim had a stomach flu. He also had a fever.

April 20

+ Urim still had a fever in the morning and he vomited a lot. It's now our Exorcist joke.

+ He still pushed for us to leave early, because I had to exchange my Zen Stone Plus. He also planned on buying a TV and PS2 at SM Bicutan because there was a sale.

+ I had a little spat with the sales guy at the shop because he wasn't very nice. He practically said that I didn't know what I was doing. That could have been the case, but he could have said something else.

+ We went to Sbarro to buy takeout.

+ We went to SM Bicutan and Urim bought a TV and a red PS2. (I chose the color.)

+ When we arrived at his house, he immediately went to bed, while his cousins and I set up the TV and PS2 in his room.

+ He still had a fever and didn't want to eat. I was still able to feed him a few bites of spinach lasagna.

+ I played PS2 for the very first time. Urim gave instructions while sleeping on and off.

+ I charged my Zen Stone Plus using his outlet. It worked.

+ I finished the pizza that we bought.

+ I went home.

+ He was sick for three days.

April 21

+ I went to Urim's house because he was still sick.

+ I brought him a bowl of congee. He barely ate, so I semi-happily finished it. Semi-happily because I love congee, but I felt bad that he couldn't eat much.

+ I played PS2.

+ I was depressed because my employer hadn't e-mailed the contract and work handbook.

+ I gave Urim some fever medicine.

+ I went home and checked my work e-mail. Still nada.

April 27

+ I went to Urim's house for his mom's birthday.

+ I bought a cake for her.

+ He was feeling better. The doctor said he had gastritis and gastroenteritis.

+ He's probably the only person I know who has a really sensitive stomach.
That's about it. I'll do an update on my work status once it's more stable. Ciao!
